Facts:
- Well... Finland has some very... unique competitions and events, like Mosquito Swapping Contest, Wife Carrying Contest and Cellphone Throwing Contest.
- There's more saunas than cars in Finland. 8D Seriously, I dare you to find a Finn who (lives in Finland and) has never used sauna!
- Like saunas, there is also thousands of lakes in Finland. |D If you travel in Finland, it's usual to go past at least one lake. At least when going to the Eastern Finland.
- Finns surpassed Danes in alcohol consumption! |D That makes us the greatest alcohol consumers of the Nordic countries!
- In Finnish jokes you can often hear the Finn, the Swede and the Norwegian competing against each other.
- "Finnish is the heavenly language; It takes eternity to learn" Finnish is part of the Finno-Ugric language family, like Hungarian and Estonian. Of course there are many words borrowed from Swedish and English, but along the way they're usually transformed into words that look much like they've belonged to the Finno-Ugric languages from the start and thus are not easily recognized.
- Because Finnish is so difficult to learn, almost every Finn knows some English. Finns are also notorious from the fact that if a foreigner tries to speak English to them, they usually automatically change to English. It's bad for those who truly are trying to learn the language (poor buggers).
- The Finns are also very interested in what you think about their country. 8D Or so it seems. *coughTotallyNotBelongingInThatGroupCough* It has strong roots to the history, when our nation was young and nobody else knew about it.
- Santa Claus lives in Lapland, not in North Pole. >:^T
- The Finns kicked some Soviet ass in the Winter war. |D
- During the Continuation war the UK, New Zealand, Canada, Australia and South Africa declared a war on Finland, not without a good reason of course. Luckily they never did anything more.
- On our Indepence day 6.12. we burn (blue and white )candles and watch old war movies( Väinö Linna's The Unknown Soldier!) and the Presidential Ball.
- Finland consumes helluva lot of coffee. Actually more than any other country.
- 7th largest country in Europe and 2nd most northern country in the world! |D
- Hmm... During the summer it's light 'round the clock, sun either not setting at all or going away for only a while. On the other hand, our winters are really dark, sun never rising or rising only for a while. Four seasons, gotta love 'em.
- We Finns don't carry a knife with us all the time. Really. |D
- We Finns probably won't like you if you call us Russians or Swedes.
